TOMS
RIVER
– Over 600 Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts paid tribute to the spirit and
determination of Olympic athletes over the centuries at the 30th
annual Scout Show sponsored by the Jersey Shore Council of the Boy Scouts of
America on February 2 at the Shore Mall in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey.
Over 30 packs
and troops from Atlantic and OceanCounties set up displays
throughout the Shore Mall and were judged on their efforts to develop the
Olympic theme in their exhibits. Several weeks of planning, creativity, and
teamwork went into the creation and building of each of the displays, according
to William Schmitz, a Jersey Shore Council representative who oversaw the
event.
The “Best in
Show” award was presented to Boy Scout Troop 389, which is sponsored by AtlanticChristianSchool in EggHarborTownship. The Troop’s exhibit displayed
ways that the core values of scouting form Olympians. On behalf of Troop 389,
Victor Logan, an 8th grader at AtlanticChristianSchool, received the
“Best in Show” trophy, which is dedicated to the memory of lifetime scouter
Raymond Collins. The troop’s name will be listed on the trophy along with other
troops that have received this honor since 1998.
