Jersey Shore Council Boy Scouts Welcome New Scout Executive

(Toms River, NJ, March 25, 2008) – The Jersey Shore Council, Boy Scouts of America, welcomes Craig H. Shelley, Director of Development with the Greater New York Councils, Boy Scouts of America, as its new Scout Executive. A 17-member Scout Executive Selection committee chose Craig from a list of applicants whose individual talents and successes demonstrated strengths in a variety of essential administrative areas. His appointment becomes effective April 15, 2008.

Craig will lead the Jersey Shore Council as it strives to continue its tradition of quality growth. Bringing Scouting to underserved areas of our community as well as sustaining, improving and expanding Scouting programs for our youth, especially at our Joseph A. Citta Scout Reservation in Brookville, remain priorities.

“I am honored to have been selected to join the Jersey Shore Scouting community in such a significant role,” said Craig.  “I look forward to working with the countless dedicated volunteers, supporters and superb staff to continue an outstanding Scouting tradition.”

Prior to serving as Director of Development, Craig served Scouting in New York City as Assistant Director of Development, Director of Corporate and Foundation Giving, Exploring Director, District Executive and as a Para-Professional.  Craig has also worked outside of Scouting as Director, Annual Programs for Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, New York where he helped to fund the construction of The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore.  Craig grew up as a Scout in Queens, New York and was active in a variety of capacities including as a camp staff member for many years.  He will be relocating to the Jersey Shore in the coming months from East Norwich, New York with his wife, Marion, and daughter, Scarlett.

“Craig’s impressive Scouting resume and attention to detail made him an excellent fit here at the Jersey Shore,” said Council President Robert Warner. “I look forward to working closely with Craig to maintain the positive image of Scouting we’ve built over the years. I welcome Craig to our beautiful Jersey Shore area and wish him well as he takes on the role of Scout Executive.”
