Local Scout Do Their Good Turn

Pack_204.jpg
On September 29, 2008 members of Cub Scout Pack 204 (pictured above with Cubmaster Brian Skalski and Committee Chair Meredith Acacia) provided several hours of service to Elms Elementary School in Jackson.  Members of the pack spent the afternoon planting azaleas outside the school.  This is a great example of a Scout Unit giving back, as Elms is the school where Pack 204 meets.  Projects like this definitely help build a bridge between community organizations and local units.  If your unit has done a meaningful service project to the community please let us know, and make sure to log your service hours on www.goodturnforamerica.org

September is the time to start recruiting your new Scouts!  Each year it is our opportunity to put Scouting at the forefront of our communities.  We want to make sure every child in the Whispering Pine District is given the opportunity to join Scouting.  We want to cover our community in opportunities and awareness.  If you have yet to set up your school night and boy talk contact Chris today at 732-349-1037 ext.22.

Why:
Turkey Fest is a day of food and fun. The cooking team
will be cooking a complete Turkey dinner outdoors. While
the food is cooking you can participate at our many
activities. You can built a water bottle rocket and
launch it. Have you ever made a catapult to toss a
rubber turkey? Well you can at Turkeyfest. We will
also have games that all can enjoy together.

This year, again, we will be revamping our activities schedule to add more activities for all. We will have all of the activities we have had in the past with the addition of a Civil War re-enactment with 2 cannons, one of which was actually used in the war. We would like to welcome the Jackson Township S.W.A.T. to this year’s celebration and, if weather permits we may just be getting a visit from a Blackhawk helicopter and a Humvee. We will have Ham Radio operators so that you can talk around the world. The Salvation Army will be there to serve you Hot Chocolate and Coffee and of course we will have Bottle Rocket launchers so that you can launch your favorite soda bottles (turned into rockets) into the sky.

Help:         We need your unit cooks/chef’s. Our cooking team has a lot of food to prepare for a large group of hungry Scouts, Scouters and families. The cooking team will meet the week before to review the menu and the cooking plan. We are asking for at least one adult member from each unit to help cook, in addition any Scout who would like to help in the kitchen can participate in the cooking. We also need volunteers to help run the activities both adults and older scouts are needed.
